9 Best Stores for Last-Minute Halloween Costumes

Spooky season is finally here, which means it’s time to bring out the Halloween costumes!

Just like hot girl summer, for some, Halloween is a way of life. They embrace it 24/7 and, once this year’s celebrations end, they’re already planning what their next Halloween costume — or shall I say costumes. It’s truly admirable! For others, however, coming up even with even one costume idea takes a whole village. Not because they’re not creative but because putting a costume together can become quite time-consuming.

Even the “laziest” of costumes take a bit to nail. If you reach out for those kitten ears, you still need to think about which dress and tights to pair them with, what makeup you will wear, and how are you going to carry all of your essentials while wearing your full garb. And don’t get me started if you have to think about group or couple costumes!

And preparations only get worse if you leave all of this brainstorming for the very last day, when all you want to do instead is eat those delicious Halloween sugar cookies — you know the ones I’m talking about. Luckily enough, there are a handful of stores that have you covered, whether you’re a Halloween stan or you’re just looking to have a fun time with your friends. From head-to-costumes for under $100 to great accessories you can pair up with your own ‘fits, we’ve listed below the best stores to score some last-minute Halloween costumes.

But before you scroll, here are some quick notes: 1) Pick your costume wisely, we don’t want to see any instances of cultural appropriation, and 2) Before adding something to your cart make sure you’ve combed your closet first and consider rocking something you already own instead of buying a one-time-outfit. (Your jammed-packed closet, your wallet, and the world will appreciate it!)

On your next online or IRL shopping trip, consider snagging your last-minute Halloween costume too. Target has all the usual suspects (Harley Quinn, witches, 1920s flapper…) but our favorites might be the two below. With these costumes, you can easily channel your fave pop singer (aka Olivia Rodrigo, Teen Vogue‘s October 2021 cover star) or queen of sad girl anthems Phoebe Bridgers.
