Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce says the Nationals intend to be the “adult in the room” when it comes to making a decision on net zero.
“The diligence on our side within the Nationals is to make sure we flesh out the issue,” Mr Joyce told Sky News host Chris Smith.
“And fleshing out the issue, we clearly understand what the ramifications are for regional Australia.
“We were done over the first time with the Kyoto Protocol; in the Kyoto Protocol, we basically woke up and they’d stolen our vegetation rights off us.
“We’re going to make sure this doesn’t happen to us again.
“We’ve got large mining communities, we respect absolutely the rights of farmers, we’ve got to make sure we look after that.”
