Channel Your Inner Rockstar With A Stay At The Newly Renovated Garland


With a history steeped in Hollywood legend, The Garland is embracing the next chapter of its story with a brand new look.

On the heels of the hotel’s 50th anniversary, the North Hollywood oasis named for actress Beverly Garland recently unveiled its latest renovation with a commitment to providing a true “Old Hollywood” experience for guests and locals, alike.

During COVID-19, The Garland underwent a refresh, welcoming travelers to indulge in their very own California daydream -from check-in to check-out. Guests can enjoy revamped offerings from the moment they arrive, including an all-new pool deck, updated courtyard and meeting spaces, as well as refreshed menus and offerings from signature restaurant and celebrity hotspot, The Front Yard. There’s also the expansion of The Store, the Garland’s curated, California-inspired boutique.

“The past year and a half has been particularly hard on our industry,” says The Garland’s general manager Scott Mills. “During this time we were able to focus on what we could control – facilitating further investments in our hotel experience by completing extensive upgrades and renovations to the property. We could not  be more excited to welcome guests to enjoy our reinvigorated amenities and spaces just in time for 2022, marking our 50th anniversary.”

To stay at The Garland is to take a trip through Hollywood folklore. As Beverly’s career soared, her husband Fillmore Crank purchased the land that now houses The Garland. It quickly became an urban oasis for movie stars and musicians, alike. From Dolly Parton to Kurt Cobain, the hotel became steeped in celebrity legend. Memorable moments includ actor John Wayne throwing trays of champagne off the top floor balcony and Dolly Parton declining the grand penthouse suite and walking into Beverly’s office declaring, “I am just a tiny little thing, I just want a room like anyone else.” It’s even rumored that Kurt Cobain proposed to Courtney Love on the hotel’s Portola bridge.

In 2000, Beverly and Fillmore’s son, James Crank took the helm of the Beverly Garland hotel and maximized the original 70’s California Bohemian design to create a re-imaged and renovated brand, The Garland. To this day, he and husband Scott Elliot oversee the property and have added the following new offerings to The Garland:

  • New Pool Deck and Courtyard Refresh: The property utilized the downtime during closures to make updates to the pool decking, finish a full tiling of the pool, bar area, and jacuzzi, and complete its pool dining pavilion. Along with the pool area, the hotel completed a full re-landscaping of its courtyard. On select days, The Courtyard boasts live music, a taco cart, and games, all ideally located adjacent to The Lobby Bar. 
  • The Store: The Garland’s curated shop features all locally-sourced and California-inspired items. Each item is creatively designed, hand picked and merchandised  by Beverly Garland’s daughter, Carrington Goodman. The expansion doubled the size of the  existing space allowing for new products and larger quantities of existing items,  with its debut following the hotel’s reopening.
  • Revamped Meeting Spaces: The Garland recently relocated its boardroom space, The Alamos Room, to be adjacent to the Beverly Garland Theater and larger meeting spaces within the conference center. The 200 square-feet of space is ideal for business travelers looking for an intimate meeting area while still allowing for plenty of leisure time.
  • Wellness Suites: Guests can keep their workout routine on track and book one of The Garland’s two wellness suites, offering  a Peloton Bike, Bowflex adjustable weights, and an interactive Mirror fitness system for cardio, strength, yoga, boxing, Pilates, barre and more in your own room. The wellness suite also includes a specially curated minibar featuring an array of healthy snacks.
